HAPPY 70TH BIRTHDAY TO CLASS OF 1957

At the top is a photo I found on line of the Stainless Steel egg in Millennium Park in downtown Chicago.
Below that is the group from the class of 1957 that took the trip to celebrate their 70th birthdays.
Ed Mathias emailed me the photo and the letter below. I added the seal of Chicago to the photo thinking it would be a nice addition.

“Sarj,
As you know a few of us got together in Chicago to celebrate our 70th birthdays. Here we are under the big stainless egg in Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. Had a great time.
If you can't recognize everybody send me a note and I'll enumerate.
Ed”

Yes Ed send the name info and I will try to tag the photo so when you pass a mouse over the images the name of the person will appear. I know most of them but to be safe send the names in order.
Thanks Ed

HOT SUMMER

I thought that since everyone in Tiffin has been telling me how Hot it is lately I would send you a video of Snow pictures I took over a couple of trips to Tiffin and some that friends sent me. The first photos are of Jim Wade's house during a blizzard a couple of years back. The next photos are of the house I grew up in on Franklin St. Then some of my second home, when I am visiting and that is Bob and Barb Bauer's house where the fron bedroom is called "The Bloom Room" because that's where I stay when I visit. The rest are just random houses that I took one day while driving around and the last is the windshield fo my car. DID THIS COOL YOU OFF? ARE YOU READY FOR WINTER YET? NOT YET YOU SAY!

The Bowers were visiting from FL.

Sorry Viv....Sarj

OLD HOUSE IN TIFFIN

Vivian Blankenship sent these photos to me last year. It is an old house in Tiffin. I forget the location but maybe Vivian will tell us. Anyway I love buildings and old ones are a favorite too. Notice the brick street in front? Remember when all the streets were brick? Although I don't remembeer this particular house I do remember ones similar to it and it's part of my memories of Tiffin.
Vivian wrote back and said th house has been torn down now and it's only a vacant lot with weeds on the corner of Madison and Front streets.
thanks Viv

"THE HOOD"

'

This is the neighbor hood of my youth. I roamed all the alleys and streets. I had friends to play games with and neighbor hood parents that you could go to for help if no one was home. I have great memories of the games we played. The accidents that happened and of course some of the dumb things we did as children. It was a good time to be a kid and as I look at this photo my memories take me back to those wonderful days of youth.
The house I grew up in is the third house in from Hall St. Good Ole' 245 Franklin St. see photo above.

JUST A NOTE

Thanks to all of you that view the blog. Hopefully you will begin to leave comments or send in your stories and photos to shave with our friends from Old Columbian High.

FAMILY PRIDE

July 23 my grandson Vincent Tozzolo graduated from the U.S. Army Boot Camp at Fort Benning in Columbus, GA. My wife Jan and I drove up and stayed overnight to see the event. My daughter-in-law Mary Bloom and her children Richard, Julia and Olivia also made the trip and of course Vinny's parents and two sisters. So in all I had half of my grandchildren in one place which was great.

Vinny has really made this family proud, not just for joining the Army, but for the decisions he has made to take control of his life and set goals. I won't go into all the details but he made the choice to go back to school and get his HS diploma and then decided to join the Army to get the training and more education that will give him a good career. These are not easy decisions for a young man. Making such a commitment shows character that is missing in a lot of men today. I really don't know how to explain it but maybe you all know what I'm talking about.

Aside from the pride of seeing Vinny graduate and set off on his path to success I also got a sense from seeing all those fine young men that were also choosing to serve their country. If you watch the news today and hear some of the comments about our service men you may get the impression that not every things is well with our country. Well if you get the chance to wittiness a graduation ceremony or visit a military base you will come back with the impression that "All is Well" and our young men are just as brave, true and loyal as ever. I know because my grandson is one of them.
